An interesting, in-depth and empowering 3-day online course for practitioners of all kinds to understand the anti-pathology, trauma-informed approach to their work and their clients.

Do you want to learn how to become an independent trauma advocate who challenges the medical model of mental health in your work?

Do you already work with children or adults, and you are concerned that they are being labelled and pathologised as mentally ill or disordered when in fact, they are distressed and traumatised?

You will study our resources, materials and learn how to deliver new programmes of trauma-informed, anti-victim blaming, strengths based work directly to children and adults who have been subjected to abuse.

Course content:

  • Learn what it means to be trauma-informed, and the evidence you need to back up your approaches.
  • Learn the history of psychiatry, psychology and trauma.
  • Understand how pathologisation links to victim blaming and oppression of marginalised groups.
  • Understand the theories and approaches to trauma-informed working.
  • Explore common ways that children and adults are blamed, shamed and discriminated against.
  • Explore our resources and tools, to implement in your own practice.

What will you learn from the course?

This course provides the evidence, theories, and skills you will need to:

  • Support adults and children who have been pathologised and labelled with psychiatric disorders when they have been subjected to abuse and trauma.
  • Challenge notes, reports, and assessments with evidence which demonstrates that people who are traumatised and distressed are not mentally ill.
  • Discuss and debate wrongful diagnosis, or deliberate diagnostic processes in order to discredit a child or adult in distress.

This course is the first of its kind, and will teach professionals how to advocate and protect their clients from pathologisation.
